Floor exercise in artistic gymnastics is judged on both acrobatic difficulty and artistry — and many gymnasts train the first category far more than the second.
Dance choreography in floor is not filler between tumbling passes. The Code of Points specifies required dance elements, and their quality directly affects the execution score. A poorly performed leap series or a transition that lacks shape costs as concretely as a bent knee on a tumble.
This course addresses the choreographic and technical requirements of floor exercise dance content. We work through the mechanics of required elements — leaps, jumps, turns, and pirouettes — and then focus on how to construct transitions that flow rather than stall.
The course suits gymnasts competing at regional or national junior levels, as well as coaches looking to improve their choreographic vocabulary.
All skill work is filmed and reviewed in each session. Each stage builds on the one before it, giving you a concrete foundation before the material grows more demanding. Skipping ahead rarely helps — the structure is deliberate.
Detailed breakdown of Code of Points dance elements for floor. Each element examined technically, corrected, then practiced with approach and landing.
How to move between acrobatic and dance content without losing performance quality. Focus on choreographic logic and spatial flow.
Participants build a complete 30-second floor dance passage using their own music and existing skill set.
